The closest town to this side of the Boundary Waters was Grand Marais.  We needed some cell service and food so we drove into town to check it out! There’s an old Coast Guard station with a small lighthouse at the end of a pier and ruins of the old lighthouse.  The water here is amazingly clear but super duper cold so while I desperately wanted to go swimming, I refrained so I didn’t die.

Found some boats of course!
Canoe statue on the beach.
Little bird painting in town
Random composition waiting for Jason to get his ice cream
They do tours on this old sailboat
Fantastic art supply store!

The town itself was actually super cute.  It’s obviously the artsy, semi-touristy town in the region but that meant they had a bunch of cute little shops, tons of local art, and coffee shops! We had a pretty excellent day wandering around.  Somehow there’s not a good art supply store at home, so I stocked up on paper and watercolor paints while I was there because I may as well treat myself.
