We got a LOT done today! A ton of wiring related parts arrived in the mail yesterday, so Jason started in on running the main cables to and from all of our fancy new electrical equipment.
All of this stuff took him all day. Since only one person can really fit in the space at a time, I did my own thing on the other side of the boat. My main goal is to finish the work on the engine nook area so I can put the engine back together and be done with all of that stuff. When we first got the boat and started removing panels, the insulation just fell off of the panel at the front of the motor. The foam gets hard and crumbly and eventually fails, so not only do you have lead lined foam adrift in your engine compartment, but the nasty foam dust gets everywhere. It’s gross and it had to go… I ordered an entire box of new insulation and I’ll just use it up until it’s gone!
So it looks like I may need some more thermal insulation on my turbo and exhaust. The exhaust elbow isn’t the factory one and is considerably taller. Maybe I’ll have to wrap it all in fiberglass. I hope not though…
Yesterday I painted some storage under the floor inside the boat and a little test panel inside the lazarette out back. I’m not sure what the lazarette was painted with originally, because it’s a little “soft” feeling. The bilgekote white paint I used said it will paint over “any” existing paint.. but I figured I would verify. This morning, the paint was dry and didn’t look like it would just flake off.. so I went ahead and painted the rest of the lazarette. It’s a noticeable difference! VERY white!
Eventually I want to clean and paint the other lazarette. It looks exceptionally filthy now compared to the fresh paint on the other side! Now that the old generator is removed, we have a lot of extra space in the middle. We will deal with that later, but for now I’d really like to make some doors to cover the open holes inside the boat…and I can add nice, organized hooks for all of our lines and fenders.
Can’t wait to do it again tomorrow! 😉
