After letting the paint dry inside the boat for a few days Jason and I wrestled the shiny cabinets into place in the galley! We will have to take them back out again to fix something behind them, but for now they’re out of the way and we get to see what our galley is going to look like!  (excuse the mess in a few photos..we’re still working here!!)

I also spent a lot of time with chemicals and a scrubbing pad going to town on the countertops to get them cleaned up.  We made the decision to not replace them with Corian this year to save some money and time.  The current ones look a little worn in spots, but they cleaned up way nicer than I thought they would!

Also, when we were removing the cabinets in the first place, we had to cut the big one to get it out.  there’s an entire section on the left where a tiny microwave was that found its way to the dumpster.  Now I’m using cardboard to template a new, full-height, cabinet in its place.  Its going to be my coffee nook!

There’s a lot of room there!
time to cut some plywood!

While waiting for paint to dry we also did a little more work on the engine to get it back together and ready to fire up.  Our fancy new, high powered alternator requires a bigger belt than the old v-shaped one that was on it so we got to upgrade the pulleys to fancy anodized blue ones!

bling bling!

The motor is starting to come back together.  Hopefully soon she will be in a state where we could fire it up!

I also finally made a decision on the mattresses for the boat… we bought ourselves a latex foam mattress because we had one before that was super comfortable, they sleep cooler than regular foam, and are mildew resistant.  I wanted to make a new cover for our mattress because I just really don’t care for blue that much, but it’s going to be covered with sheets 99% of the time since we’re going to be living on the boat so it doesn’t really matter.  Jason and I wrangled the old nasty mattresses out of their covers the other day at the apartment dumpster and I washed the old covers inside and out 3 times. They no longer smell like boat and immediately had a cat (Duster…) laying on them. Excellent.

We went back and forth about the mattress for the guest room for a while.  The memory foam mattresses are cheaper and we found the one that we had in our camper super comfortable, but according to everyone, the memory foam mattresses will get super hot when you sleep and are more prone to molding.  Since we’re hopefully going to be using the boat in the tropics most of the time, we went ahead and sprung for another latex foam mattress for the guest room.  Y’all better appreciate it! 😉 The covers that came on the old mattress were too disgusting to even look at, so I found some greatly discounted Sunbrella fabric that wasn’t terrible to make new covers for the new mattress!  It’s a stripe, which I’m not in love with, but it matches the cats and at less than $8 a yard for genuine Sunbrella, I’m not going to pass it up!

Now we get to see if I can sew a straight line!

I have a lot of sewing projects now! I better get started! 😮
