I ordered the parts I need to put my engine back together today, but since I obviously don’t have them yet, I had to finish up some other things. One probably really small thing that was bothering me was a run of large battery cables that go along the front and port side of the engine bed were bolted to the bulkhead at a height where they rest on the bottom. This was catching all kinds of dirt and grime and not allowing any fluid leaks to drain out. It might be a little anal of me, but I moved these cables up an inch to fix these problems. I like having a clean engine bay!
I didn’t really get any pictures showing my cable fix, but I did remove most of the blue tape from the engine, cleaned the grime and overspray, and painted the engine mounts black.
While I was waiting for the engine to dry I accomplished a few other small tasks. One of these was to remove the old (disgusting) seawater supply line for the galley and replace it with new hose. There is a little foot pump under the cabinet, so we don’t use fresh water or power to wash most of the grime off of our dishes!
As usual, we had to run to Ace and Advance to get parts. Advance had a lovely DIY for a facemask using things you may have laying around the garage!
We’re still waiting on a lot of pieces to get here so we can finish up the plumbing and the thru hull fittings that we fixed up the other day. I did manage to put one back together today. The shower sump overboard is now fully operational (with a handle and everything this time!), the sewage tank vent is installed, the wiring is cleaned up and everything is attached to the bulkhead! This space is DONE!
The boat is currently torn apart to where it looks like a tornado ran through it. There are tools and parts on every available surface, only one person can walk through at a time.. there are galley cabinets in the middle of the walkway. It’s a disaster… So I spent an hour or so rage-cleaning and putting everything we didn’t need at hand in the closet I just finished.
Jason and I also looked at the AC side of the electrical panel and realized that most of it is unused. Not sure what we’re going to do about that quite yet, but both AC and DC could stand to be cleaned up a little bit for sure!
We’re trying to really finish up the last little parts of our projects so we can dig into something new. It’s funny how quickly the main part of the work goes, but finishing it up takes literally weeks… Ohwell, progress was made!
