We had big plans to replace the countertops in the boat, but at the end of the day we just don’t want to spend the money or wait for them to be made.  We can put it all together, make it pretty, and replace them next season if we want to.  It *will* be nice to get the kitchen cabinets off of the port sofa… being able to sit on my boat would be really nice. 😉 My fantastic parents came over to help on the boat and since sanding and painting is something they do well, I set them loose on it! Mom painted the cover to the starboard lazarette where the old generator was and dad sanded and prepped the outboard galley cabinets.

Aren’t they adorable?

Just a big white square but it’ll look nice

I did learn a lesson today: don’t try to apply paint in the hot sun at noon.  It’s just the first coat, but it looks pretty terrible and I’m ashamed of my paint skills.  Either way, I love the color! It’s a slightly brighter version of the cream color on the existing laminate formica.

Way brighter!

Something else I’ve been procrastinating on was painting the port lazarette…mostly because it needed to be washed out first.  I sucked it up this morning before it got too hot and went down there with a bucket and a hose and washed the entire space.  Now I just need to prep for paint, let it dry, and then go to town on it!

Before
After.

Since the new electrical system is mostly installed and waiting on parts, Jason has started thinking about the electronics (radar/radio/etc).  The boat came with a bunch of obsolete equipment that we removed, but that meant that there was a panel with a ton of unusable holes in it.  Today we laid out our fresh sheet of plywood and figured out how best to arrange the new stuff on it.

It fits nice and snug!
Stuff might go here? (arrangement changed later…)
Time to cut some holes.

The holes are cut and now all I need to do is finish the front so that it’s pretty and we can install it in the boat! Should be a nice weekend project.

Also, we’re practically living out of our 4Runner right now, so I took a picture of the back with our paddleboards, cooler, etc.

Time to clean the truck.

Aside from some other panels that need to be reinstalled, the sofa is almost cleared off! PROGRESS!

You could almost sit on it if you wanted!

The galley is going to get another coat of paint tomorrow (that hopefully goes better than today!) and just maybe we will be able to put the upper cabinet back in place!
