We were getting pretty far into the trip and, unlike Tahiti, actual stores selling food were extremely hard to find and when you found them, they didn’t have anything worth buying.  Needless to say, we were hoping to just eat out.  That quest led us to Great Harbor on Jost Van Dyke, just around the corner from the bubbly pool where we spent the afternoon.  It’s the main town on the island and was sure to be interesting at the very least.

A very basic map stolen from the internet
Their police station and government building
Slowly rebuilding all the houses that were destroyed
This is main street
Cool old truck outside Corsair’s restaurant
I love old trucks!
Arrows to other places
This used to be their grocery store… it’s closed. I have no idea how these people get food.
Just one of many boats on the beach
A dinghy without a dock
They’re even rebuilding the palm trees.
The crew on the way to the grocery store that had little more than canned food, bags of rice, and rum.
I don’t think they actually had ice cream
Colorful building with no name
I bought some cool t-shirts from this store just because.
The water is still beautiful blue

In my opinion, the most photogenic and striking building on the island was their old yellow church.  The roof had been ripped off in the hurricanes and has yet to be repaired.

Light filtering in

Even more colorful inside

Through the broken gates
The tree had all of it’s leaves ripped off.

If you’re ever in the area, Corsair’s restaurant has seating on the beach and the best pizza and lobster fritters. 😉
