Bubbly pool is located on the island of Jost Van Dyke down a small path from famous and unfortunately destroyed Foxy’s Bar.  It is exactly as advertised! There is a cut in the tall rock facing the ocean and when the swell comes in strong, the water rips through that cut and swirls around in the pool.  Since it’s a well known tourist destination we wanted to check it out!

A little map.

The first part of the route was on more of a dirt road, however it quickly snakes into the mangroves next to a large salt pond and turns into a legit hiking trail.  We had to be very careful not to accidentally kick the small toe-level cacti growing haphazardly among the rocks!

Note that I said that the water comes in when the swell is strong… well today it wasn’t! The pool was glassy calm and the water only reached through the rocks one time. It was still relaxing and worth the trip!

This is what it looks like when it’s ripping!
A big salt pond on the way to bubbly pool

When we arrived we had hoped to have lunch at Foxy’s Bar. I had checked online when we left to make sure it would be open, however when we got there it was distinctly under construction with only 3 guys working and no food to be had.  Unfortunate turn of events, but not unexpected given the vast quantity of rubble and hurricane debris still lining the beach.

One gigantic row of trash
Everything you can think of is laying on the beach
so much paneling

Bubbly pool still isn’t closed!
Lonely life jacket
wood beams and metal panels
Bubbly pool isn’t closed!
Funny way to make use of some of the trash!
This may have been a cute little beach bar, but it was closed too.
