I got lucky and ended up with most of the day off of work. No use squandering it! I headed out to Point Loma and the Cabrillo National Monument. The Cabrillo National Monument marks the spot where, in 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo became the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States. In addition to all that historical goodness, there is also an old light house and I managed to arrive right at low tide for the tide pools.
I was staring out at the amazing view from the park and was greeted with a flyby of 4 jets. Apparently they were flying in the “missing man formation” where the second jet leaves the group to fly into the sunset, honoring someone who has died. Pretty sad way to end my morning, but neat to see it.
All in all, a pretty darn relaxing morning overall. I even had lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Now it’s time to head back into town and see about turning in my rental car, changing hotels, and meeting up with my coworkers!
