We anchored in a bay on the other side of Warderick Wells for the night and then took the dinghy to the main office. The island itself has a hill and a few different hiking trails and snorkeling spots. We could have stayed here for an entire week and explored the island and played in the water.
One of the iconic scenes in the Exumas is a strip of deep water nestled between some islands and the beach with a line of boats tied to mooring balls. That was right here at Warderick Wells! We didn’t get here early enough to get one of the mooring balls, so we anchored in a bay on the other side, but next time I’m going to make a reservation or something because this looks like a super neat place to spend the night! Just swim off the boat to shore and play on the beach!
Jason’s mom and I hung out on the beach for a little bit while Jason went back to the boat in the dinghy to pick up the rest of the crew, so I took the opportunity to splash in the water and cool down a bit and also to explore around! There is a gigantic whale skeleton on the beach. It apparently died due to ingesting too much plastic. A grim reminder to try and clean up your trash. There was also a nice Grady White fishing boat up on the beach. This is another thing that’s common elsewhere but not in Washington state! If you’re on the beach here, you’ve screwed up real good. In the Bahamas? You relax on the beach and read a book while you wait for the tide to come back!
