The settlement at Barraterre is at the northwest tip of Great Exuma Island, the same island that Georgetown is on. It’s an order of magnitude smaller, featuring one restaurant and a small convenience store and appears to only be a starting point for boat tours for tourists staying in Georgetown. However stopping here to stock up on supplies keeps us from having to sail the roughly 24 miles in open ocean back to Georgetown just to buy milk!

Water is clear! This is about 25’
Sorn got pictures of us sailing!

While anchored in the calm bay we got some boat chores done. Mostly the engine and gear oil on the dinghy motor. Then Chris came by from Sorn to say hi and while he was over we found 3 free range floating oranges! They were still good so we just assume they fell out of someone’s bag. Not going to turn done free vitamin C!

We only got a little bit of oil on the swim step
Oranges!

The next morning the winds calmed down a bit and we dinghied into town. The store was small but I got milk for my coffee and some ramen noodles etc. Since we rarely go into town we decided to support local business and have lunch at a restaurant!

We did some dinghy exploring in the shallow mangrove areas around Barraterre for potential spots to hide from wind. Unfortunately we didn’t find anything good, so better luck next time! We did see a few bridges where there was a distinct difference in heights as the water flowed through from high to low tide. Kind of neat to see that so obviously.  There’s a lot of water that moves around!
