Even though we just replaced all of the sewage hose on the boat, our bathroom still kind of always smelled like pee.  I chased it down and realized that the macerator pump on the back of the toilet was leaking through the seals and pooling underneath the toilet base until it dripped onto the floor. Awesome. (gross!!!) I bought a rebuild kit for everything and then got to thinking that it’s nice to have a rebuild kit just in case, but why not start our cruise with a new toilet that shouldn’t have any issues? So…. I ordered a new toilet and had it shipped to our very patient friend Caroline’s house!

It’s shipped upside down. Neat.

The actual replacement wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.  The hoses were new, so really the worst part is me having to use my hand on the end of the outlet hose to stop the water from backflowing into the boat while Jason took the old toilet and brought me the new one.  The hoses just popped right on and the bolt pattern in the deck was the same so I had it installed pretty quickly.  The wiring required some mods to hook up but I even swapped out the old switch panel for a nice shiny new white one!

Done!

Unfortunately, when I installed our bidet seats I didn’t fully understand how the potable water system on the boat worked and cut in my tee for the water supply after the solenoid that the toilet uses to supply flushing water.  So… they didn’t work.  Between fixing my mistakes there and replacing the solenoid valve that is leaking, I have some work to do on the sewage system still.

I added a tee for the supply to the bidet and a nice quarter turn ball valve.  The toilet flushes way more water now.  The old valve was surprisingly restrictive and the port side even had an o-ring wedged sideways in the flow.  Wonder how long that’s been there?
