After buttoning up the boat for hurricane season, moving all of our stuff in with Fran, and prepping the 4Runner we were finally ready to leave on our road trip! The Runner was *packed* with all of our camping stuff, camera gear, everything we need for 2 months or more on the road, and everything the cats need… and the 2 cats! There was barely any room for people when we were done!

I added some side stripes and all the stuff is on the roof rack! She’s ready to roll!
Dart finally relaxed on Fran’s sofa

We left bright (JK… still dark…) and early in the morning.  The first thing the cats do is jump up into the cargo net that I made.  I know they love to be up high, but Dart was up there in the first minute of being shoved into the car.  I unintentionally made a cat hammock!

They’re less than impressed
They stayed in these same spots the entire 2 day trip.

The cats didn’t move at all. Duster laid in the sunshine by the window and Dart laid in his hammock on top of the camelbacks and camp towels.  Overall, they travel pretty well! Except…when we stop at drive through windows.  For some reason they’re fascinated by that and always try to climb out and then Duster has to beg for whatever we’ve got.  I gave him little chunks of cheese from my burger.

little beggar!

Jason and I drove from Jacksonville to the outskirts of Houston in one day because the place we had planned to stop halfway was exactly where the hurricane had gone through.  We drove for about 12 hours so I took a lot of pictures with the cats!

After a good night’s sleep at our favorite Motel 6 chain (they’re very pet friendly and usually don’t have carpeted floors) we hit the road again to head south to Mcallen, Texas.  McAllen is where Jason’s sister Jessica and her husband Truett live.  They’re our first stop in our driving tour of the US!

No traffic at all in Houston…

Can you find the cat in the picture below?

…not the black cat… the other one!
little shit!

Jessica has chickens! I got to hold and pet them.

Me holding a chicken. This hasn’t happened before.
Lots of chickens! They were soft.
Today’s haul of eggs!
