We started off our day by loading up the 4Runner with a bunch of boat parts we didn’t need and then heading to the storage shed to grab a few more unused parts and our fenders and lines.  Tomorrow we’re going to take all of our old parts to the local used parts store and see what we can get for all of it.  I’m tired of trying to sell things on craigslist with no success, so… this should be a win/win.

Cart all loaded up with goodies.

There was even more stuff on the boat that we crammed into the truck.  Overall the entire cargo area was full to the ceiling and about half of the back seats.

Doesn’t our 4Runner look cool though!?

In true sailboat fashion I didn’t want to try to organize all the fenders and stuff right now so I threw them all in a locker…. which is now full.  We’re going to have to work on that!

Luckily this is the small one?

I went to look at the transom to inspect Jason’s sanding (good job!) and realized that we bought a new light for the back.  Unfortunately, the holes are in the wrong spots since this is a much smaller light than the old one.  We decided to mix up some more filler and just fill these holes in as well.  That way we can install the new light wherever we end up wanting it instead of in an easily-kicked spot right where the step might be!

Much cleaner!

While I was loading up all the crap on the boat, Jason wired up the new VHF radio!

One more thing is operational! Hurray!

Once we made it home, I figured that now was as good a time as any to start the modifications to the mattress we bought for the aft cabin.  I realized that the fabric I bought was only 46″ wide instead of the 54″ or wider that I have been using for my other projects.  Since this is a queen size mattress, that meant that the way the factory cut their mattress sections was too wide for my fabric.  I would either have to graft on another section at the end or cut my mattress smaller.  Since I chose a striped pattern (because I hate myself) I had a smaller chance of success with the grafting so I decided to do whatever size I needed on the pattern. I don’t even want to admit how long it took me to figure out how wide to make things… seriously, it was hours… but eventually I just gave up and winged it. Tomorrow I can actually cut the foam and start cutting my fabric pieces!

Stripped the cover and batting off of the latex foam mattress
The old mattress pieces are so misshapen and sad that they really weren’t any help at all. I’ll just throw them away.
Pattern in place!
This is my fabric. It’s black, grey, and silver.

So if I buy fabric the same color as my cats, it won’t show cat hair, right? 😉 That’s the plan anyway. Now I just have to try to sew this fabric in nice straight lines.  Fun fact about this mattress… NONE of the edges are at a 90* angle. Everything is slightly tilted… So I’m going to line the stripes up with the edge of the bed and run them perpendicular back.  Wish me luck!
