Today Jason sanded the transom to smooth out the holes that we filled with epoxy yesterday and scuff the paint up so the new paint will adhere. I *still* didn’t get a picture of any of it so you’re going to have to take my word for it that it’s a thing that’s happening! 😉
While he was doing that I decided to punish myself some more and climb back into the freezer to chisel out some more of whatever the previous owner filled the drain sump with. Made good progress today and almost have it all cleaned out! I also learned that I can fit my entire body into the freezer and if I spin around inside I can get to the sump. Awesome to be able to work on it, but also a very hot, tight, uncomfortable space. I made sure to wear my safety glasses because I’ve already learned my lesson about how shit flies around when you hit it with a hammer. However, today I had a chunk hit my glasses square in the middle! I would have definitely lost an eyeball if I hadn’t had them on! Wear your safety gear, kids!! 😮
I can only stay in there and hammer for so long before it just gets way too hot, so I crawled back out and stood in front of the AC unit and picked shards of hardened glue out of my hair until I cooled down a little bit.
Jason was wiring something up for the radio and communication crap, so I got back to work on replacing all of the light fixtures.
We ordered a new fan in addition to the lights, so we hooked some wires together to test it out. This thing moves WAY more air than the old round style fans we have installed already. The decision was made to order 5 more of them and just replace all of the main fans in the boat. We’re not going to have air conditioning, so this was a good compromise! I’m ignoring the master bedroom for now because it’s a disaster zone, so we moved our efforts to the aft/guest bedroom.
I will never understand why Island Packet installed literally the ugliest fake wood paneled square lights in these otherwise modern and pretty boats. Seriously, these are hideous.
The aft cabin has a few undermount lights that actually work pretty well, and the 2 ugly monstrosities above. Jason and I decided that guests would benefit more from the airflow of a fan than a second light, so we replaced one light with the nice fan (you’re welcome, guests!) and installed the wall sconce that we got on Amazon in place of the other. It’s almost TOO bright when you look at it and really lights up the room well! I consider this a success!
As far as I’m concerned, the aft bedroom is now finished. I ordered a few more lights to finish the rest of my project because I’m terrible at counting. 😉
When I finished that, Jason was still doing something with the main panel. He needed a widget, so I got it for him, and in the process I pulled out the box of electrical spares etc that I found on the boat while cleaning. It was essentially a gallon bag full of fuses. Our boat has maybe 5 fuses in the entire thing? Why do we have so many? I ended up bringing the box home to sort and clean out.
As usual, when I have things on the floor the cats love to come help me. This time I had color coded piles of tiny, shiny objects. It took a lot longer to do this project because I had to constantly shoo Dart away from the blue (20 amp?) fuses… I ended up keeping the old school box of round fuses, and reorganizing the other box into just blade fuses. I threw away handfuls of the ones that wouldn’t fit in the box!
It will take me a while to organize all of the spares that I found on this boat. I think over the course of buying and selling boats people just bring their ’emergency spares’ with them. Or the boat comes with spares and people buy more each time the boat is sold.. either way… boats accumulate boxes of “just in case” useless crap. My thoughts are that if I don’t even know I have a thing and don’t know where it is, it’ll never help me. So I can have my range of fuses… but I don’t need 25 spare fuses. I’m going to eventually make a master spreadsheet of all things on the boat and where they’re located. Ideally it’ll be super fancy and color coded… but I’ll be happy if I just get it done before we leave!
