I spent the morning tearing back into the engine, scuffing off flaking paint, desgreasing, and cleaning it up as best I could.  That took way longer than it really should and the engine is still dirty. It looks like the previous owners only changed the engine belts after they shredded apart in the engine bay resulting in a quarter inch of black rubbery goop on the entire front of the engine. Gross!

Looks terrible with all the paint flaking off, but at least it’s clean!

Tomorrow hopefully I can get the heat exchanger pulled apart and cleaned and spray the engine with rust converter to move toward prepping it for paint! (when the paint arrives in 1-2 business weeks…)

After rinsing off the engine degreaser I moved over to work on tracing out the bilge pump wiring.  This resulted in me ignoring the bilge pump wiring entirely and I ended up in the little nook behind the electrical panels. (why does this always happen?)

So excited.
Creeper!

We got quite a bit done today, but not a lot of pictures to show for it!  We also discovered a delicious frozen custard place: Whit’s!

I’m taking anyone who visits here for ice cream!

While poking around the boat I also noticed that all of our fire extinguishers are in poor shape.  They’re all rusted around the nozzles and one was even out of spec. I know to check the pressure level, but haven’t actually seen one that was low before! Luckily I have new ones on hand at the house waiting to go in!

The one on the right is definitely trash

Since we built the sweet slide out for the cooler in the back of the 4Runner we’ve been able to have cold drinks while working on the boat.  We expanded the scope to include a delicious, healthy, premade lunch! (there’s a small bag of chocolate chips in there too… don’t worry!)

I make pretty good sandwiches!
