A few years ago Jason splurge purchased a giant underwater LED light bar so that we could go fish for squid at night.  We hauled that thing all the way to Tahiti and had a blast watching the fish, sharks, and stingrays that came up to it at night to feed on the tiny baitfish that were also attracted to the light.  Needless to say, it’s become a tropical trip staple no matter how much of a pain in the ass it is to fit in the suitcase.  We set it up in the calm waters at Little Bay in Peter Island and waited to see what happened.  Turns out that this area is full of tiny fish and gigantic Tarpon! I’m not exactly exaggerating about how large these fish were.  They can grow up to 8′ long.  These were at least 3-4′ each and there must have been 20 of them circling the light.  The water was swarming with tiny inch long fish.  If you put your hand in the water there are so many that they just hit your hand. Weirdest feeling ever.

I regretted not getting in the water in Tahiti with the sharks, so after Rashell jumped in I decided that I could just take another shower later and put my bikini back on and got in the water also.  The fish were HUGE but really didn’t care that we were there.  Tarpon are pretty chill, so we swam around for a while getting pictures of them and the few stingrays that showed up.  Overall? totally worth it! 🙂
