Diving the river was a good introduction to the sport of freediving, however our end goal was to go to Neah Bay to gather fish for dinner. Jason has been telling me for a while now about how neat it is to swim around in the kelp forests so it was time to check that out!

Now, rather ironically given the title of this blog post, I’ve always been afraid of water.  So here I am in the open ocean surrounded by creepy kelp.  It even touched my leg! 😮 I didn’t really dive down at all here like I did at the river because the visibility was pretty terrible and the kelp freaks me out a little bit.  (ok, a lot!) I’m still pretty pleased with myself for just being out there and not panicking. I even got some pretty nifty photos out of the ordeal!  Maybe we’ll go back sometime on a more clear day and I can explore a little more.

I followed him around a lot…
Jellyfish! I had to boop it with my camera to get it away from my face.

It wasn’t very deep there. You can see the sandy bottom.
