Fairly recently I’ve branched out in my photography in an attempt to learn to use a remote flash unit.  Results have been mixed so far.  A lot of fails, but I’ve learned a lot.  I have this vision of what I want but haven’t quite nailed down the technique to make that happen.  I’m used to just walking around with my camera and making shots happen with what I find.  It’s a lot harder for me to concentrate on the camera settings and gear.  It’s infuriating, but it also nags at me to keep trying to make it work.  My goal this week was to fulfill my photo challenge subject of “excitement” and take some epic wide-angle action photos of my friends mountain biking.  (many thanks to pinterest for the inspiration…)  I got a few keepers, but overall I think I need to switch to a longer lens and find a different spot on the trail to shoot.  Better luck next time!

My favorite shot of the bunch
well lit, but my flash should have been closer
I missed the position here, but still liked the sun star and resulting lens flare.
I realized I can shoot from above by standing on the conveniently located bench next to the trail.
I liked the contrast in this one
Jason loves his bike!
Interesting motion blur effect.
Another version. I do like my composition on this one.
Close up!
