After a day full of hiking and kayaking you would think that we would utilize our comfortable and quiet boat for some relaxing reading or something. However, you would be wrong because apparently relaxing and reading is harder than it looks! Jason wanted to out and tool around in the dinghy and I suppose I wanted to take some more pictures so I would have something to occupy my time later. Our first stop on our low key cruise of Sucia island was just over to the mouth of Fossil bay where I had seen some interesting rock formations while we were out kayaking. The rocks there look like frothy mud that had just been frozen in time and turned into stone. Really weird and I need to do some research to see if, just maybe, that might actually be what happened!
Next up in our afternoon randomness: a ring around the sun!
We cruised out into open water and headed into Echo Bay to check out the boats. Echo Bay is actually really huge, especially compared to Fossil bay, but it has two smaller islands inside of it to break up the hugeness. There were still quite a few boats tied up in this spot as well, but nothing like where Salacia is currently hanging out. We did see some neat boats!
Now for the exciting part! 😮 On the way back to the boat, we’re happily hauling ass in the dinghy when it suddenly comes screeching to a halt, with a rush of water backflooding over the back of the transom. We were both confused and I was more than a little concerned. The motor is still happily purring along, but… why did we stop? Apparently we had hit a large piece of bark from a tree that had gotten lodged perfectly in front of the outboard motor, violently stopping all forward movement. Of all the random things… No one was hurt (us or the motor!) and no one fell out of the boat so all was well. The only negative here was that my camera bag got pretty soaked on the bottom. Ohwell, it’ll dry. Could definitely have been worse!
