Well, it’s that time of the year again… time for our annual random shenanigans road trip.  Named mostly due to our inability to plan anything and general disregard for where we end up… Last year we spent two weeks in the Oregon and Nevada desert viewing things such as:

night-13-2

I actually spent weeks this time figuring out a bunch of places to go so we wouldn’t have to scour the map every night.  We decided to visit mostly national parks to avoid hunting season (something we always forget exists… and clogs the usually deserted mountains with camo-clad assholes and giant RVs).  I plugged all of these stops, hikes, destinations etc into a giant map.  For me it was an impressive amount of planning. See map below:

Holy shit, right?
Holy shit, right?

We were going to start in Yellowstone and work our way down into Utah for Zion, Bryce, Moab, random slot canyons, Death Valley, Yosemite, and then back home.  However, a few days before we were set to leave we kept hearing reports of snow in Yellowstone.  I don’t generally mind cold and snow but that sounds like a miserable time.  We figured we would do our trip in reverse and headed straight down I-5 to Redding, California.  After spending a fairly restful night in a hotel, we returned to the truck to find that someone had tried very hard to steal both of our mountain bikes. Both of the cable locks were cut and luckily the rack itself had a lock through the wheels so the bikes were otherwise unharmed. But, jeez.. what a way to start a road trip.. I’ll be posting more about where we actually ended up in more posts later. (still working on it!) Needless to say that we didn’t end up going where we thought we would.  Mostly due to the weather being WAY colder than it was supposed to be.  See below for our *actual* road trip.

Not even close.
Not even close.

One of these things is not like the others… but seriously, those two maps don’t have a single coordinate in common. This is why we don’t bother planning anything! Needless to say, it was a very interesting trip. Stay tuned!
