In my last post I was in Sasebo, Japan.  Now I’m in Guam! This is stage 2 of our whirlwind work tour of the Pacific.  The weather (humid and hot) was quite the change from Sasebo and Seattle.  Stepping off the plane was a shocking experience.  I could barely remember what it was like living in florida, but a few seconds in the poorly air conditioned Guam airport brought that all back.  Nothing like suffocating in your own personal sauna just by being outside! 😉  it’s currently the off-season in Guam, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to score rooms in the Hyatt Regency.  The Hyatt is one of the most luxurious places I’ve ever stayed, for work or otherwise! (Granted, I may also be cheap and enjoy camping…).  Their pool wraps around the palm trees and gardens like a river with multiple slides and waterfalls.  It’s just gorgeous.  The whole thing opens up a beautiful white sandy beach.

One thing I found surprising is the vast amount of Japanese tourists in the area.  I suppose it makes sense.  Our flight was only like 3 hours, which is a lot quicker than getting to Mexico from Seattle.  It’s tropical paradise! Apparently goods bought overseas don’t get taxed as heavily as things bought in Japan or somesuch, so there are a lot of high end stores lining the main drag as well.  Gucci and Prada look a little out of place next to the ABC store selling souvenirs and sunscreen and the various bars and gentleman’s clubs.

I was also ecstatic to be able to get real lattes again.  I miss espresso shots.
