This morning we loaded up the camper and left Pete’s Lake and headed East towards the Mackinac bridge and the rest of Michigan.  However we can’t check un until 4 in the afternoon so we had some time to kill.  We decided to take a small detour down to Kitch-Iti-Kipi spring and see what that was all about!  I always just really really want to swim in these gorgeous clear springs that for some reason everyone always ropes off.  (sigh…) This one had a little hand crank pontoon that would take a small number of tourists across the spring to look down into it.  We were waiting, but it took forever so eventually we had our fill of looking at the clear water and huge fish and left, but it was definitely worth the detour!

It was here that I figured out that I can put my phone lenses behind my polarized sunglasses and get way better pictures of the water!  You can even see the sand and water broiling up from the spring!

After here we stopped at what multiple native-Michigonians have called the best pastys in Michigan.  What is a pasty? It’s like a delicious flaky hand pie filled with meat and vegetables.  They’re delicious but *dense*.  Jason and I should have just split one!

Lehto’s!

We arrived at our reserved campground a few hours early and they told us that even if a site is free, we can’t check in until 4.  Well ok then.  It was located at Wilderness State Park and I was hoping to be able to scour the beach for rocks, so we headed that way to kill a few hours.  However when we got there the beach was just sand… which is great for hanging out on the beach but not what I was looking for.  We hopped back into the truck and decided to take a lap of the campground and check it out.  We ended up getting screamed at by an unhinged campground host while driving through the hordes of RV’s and campers.  We decided that this campground was entirely too crowded and just wasn’t where we wanted to be so we drove down to Maple Bay State Forest Campground on Burt Lake.  It’s first come first served so we were nervous there wouldn’t be any spots, but it wasn’t busy at all and we had our pick of them! We settled on a lovely spot nestled into the trees with a short walk to the lake!
