Finally we made it back down to Arkansas to close on our house! We’ve been busy unpacking, organizing, buying furniture and just generally moving in.  The house itself is starting to turn into a functional living space, but the garage…. is not.  Unfortunately, this house only has a 2 car garage and it’s not a particularly spacious example so we really needed to get some storage for all of our toys!  I had a ton of ideas to hang things from the walls etc, but upon inspection with the studfinder we couldn’t verify that there wasn’t wiring run everywhere in the walls and didn’t want to risk hitting a wire.  We decided, instead, to do freestanding racks for all of our toys.

Unloading. The garage is mayhem and doesn’t even have the kayaks in it.
Ohyeah… we also have to put the tractor in here!

Our first draft with the kayak/canoe rack worked fine, but we put my kayak way too high so its nose was right in the path of the garage door.  We had to take it back apart and move it down a few inches.  This also made it a lot easier for me to reach so it all worked out in the end.

Quick and easy with shelf brackets, plywood, and tie down straps for stability.
measuring is hard.
Lowered a bit and we stored stuff underneath the canoe!

Remember my last post about enjoying the tandem canoe with Jason? Well, apparently we needed one of those too. Luckily we *just happened* to build our canoe rack with 3 spots. (fun fact: that was not an accident at all)

All full!

We also needed a place for our bicycles! I thought that hanging them would be a good time, so we went full speed ahead on that idea!

The mountain bikes now have a home!

Of course, we wouldn’t be us if we didn’t collect every toy imaginable, so we quickly ended up with a pair of gravel road bikes in addition to the mountain bikes.

added storage for the helmets and backpacks
The mountain bikes are more easily accessible in a little rack to the left.
Sometimes the tractor doubles as a bike rack!

One other little addition we made was to the garage door. It looked so boring and ugly as a flat plane of tan matching the house so I bought some magnetic “door hardware” and stuck it on there.  For a total effort of 10 minutes I think it really makes the door look a lot better!

Before
After

I ordered a toolbox, but it was backordered.  Once that comes in I’ll finally be able to move my tools from the bags they were in on the boat and really get things organized well! 🙂
