After leaving Norfolk we motored down the waterway all day and were making such good time we decided to bypass our planned anchorage and head towards the Albemarle sound. We really wanted to make it across the sound however the wind kicked up and the waves looked like they were building quickly! It was late enough that we gave up and decided to anchor in a random spot with no crab traps right at the entrance to the sound. We slept pretty peacefully and woke up the next morning to carry on towards Washington North Carolina. Why Washington? It’s the closest place that we can take the boat where we can pick up a rental car. (More on that later!)

I know I say this about all the places we visit but Washington is an adorable little town. The town dock lines the waterfront along the historical brick buildings downtown and the park along the water. This isn’t a town that has had a lot of tourism and updating so there are quite a few old warehouses and buildings that are abandoned, which I really wanted to explore!

Cool old truck
Love the glass blocks
Guess fly fishing is popular
Little park
The main drag at sunset
Cool old alley. I’ve always wanted to climb a fire escape.

Old church
The docks
Little library
Boat planter
Yellow brick road
Waterfront boardwalk

Art in the alley
Chain across a door
Turtles on a log. I saw so many turtles.
Fantastic old busted warehouse!

One of the streets of houses
Another cool old car
Cute colorful old house

While I do love pictures of broken buildings and old houses there was a lot more in Washington than I took pictures of. They have a place to rent kayaks (the kayaking looked really nice but we didn’t make time to go…), there are a few neat outdoor stores and shops, and we stopped at a fantastic bakery and coffee shop! This is a place I would come back to!
