The anchor that came with True North is a very popular model (Rocna 33) so we were a little flabbergasted at how poorly we found that it worked. We never had any issues with the anchor on Peregrine that was a different style and this one failed to set and dragged a few times. We just never really trusted it so we decided it needed to be replaced so we could sleep soundly at night!

The anchor we really wanted is made in the Ukraine and is, understandably, unavailable right now so we went with our second choice, a Mantus M2 85lb. It fits pretty perfectly on the front of the boat and the few times we’ve used it so far it’s been rock solid!

Since the boat is up on stands we took the opportunity to pull all of the chain out of the locker, flake it out on the ground, and mark every 25’ with paint.

It fits!
Yellow paint and neon zip ties! Should be visible for a long time!

Since our fancy chain counter broke already, the marks on the chain help me know how much chain is actually out. Too little chain and you’re more likely to pull the anchor out, too much chain and you have a huge swing radius at anchor. Previously I was just counting the seconds and guessing at length…the paint is a much more precise option!
