We didn’t get NEARLY as much done today as we wanted to. Usually we have afternoon thunderstorms that roll through and stall progress… I’m used to that. However today the storms started shortly after we got to the boat and lasted all day! I had things I wanted to do, dangit!
We did manage to get a little bit done on the boat today. Jason put some water in our water tank and we started opening valves to find leaks. (we were successful…) At first it was just a few leaky hose clamps. Then we realized that the shower in the master bathroom was broken and just pissing water everywhere. That was also where I thought it would be good to store the large roll of brown paper I bought for patterns. Guess that’s ruined now… There’s also a small leak in the galley at the water purification system. Easy fix but I didn’t want to deal with it at the time. The biggest mess happened when I opened the valve to send water to the hot water heater. It was empty so I assumed it would take a while to fill… but it just kept filling and then it started to make weird noises… I looked into the bilge and saw it slowly filling with water. (dammit!) So I shut all the valves again and take the covers off of the water heater itself and open the valve back up… only to realize that there’s a drain valve on the heater itself that was open so all of the water I thought I was using to fill the heater was just going straight out into the boat. Awesome. That’ll be fun to clean up with the shop vac later.
We also tested the transom shower and realized that it wasn’t working either, but we think that it’s because the mixing valve and hose are both shot. We’ll buy replacements and go from there. Overall, not a very exciting day and I got sprayed with water. Meh.
The hardtop is still just strapped to the frame, so eventually we’re going to need to drill some holes in it. Mostly I’m procrastinating because I don’t want to measure it to square it up. ohwell. I also need to think about how I’m going to modify the canvas to fit the frame. As it sits, the windows just flap around… not really a permanent solution.
Another underwhelming day. We gave up and went home for lunch and to start packing up our stuff. We will try again tomorrow.
