The cistern is an old dam built in the 1930’s by the CCC. I’m not sure for what reason though because it’s in the middle of the Gold Butte National Monument which is… in the middle of nowhere. The dam itself was built in between two rock cliffs.  There was a little bit of water on the back side but not much!
