The forward head is pretty much done aside from some small things to finish it up and we replaced the main run of hose from the aft head to the tank yesterday.  Today’s goal was to finish replacing all the hoses in the aft head and prepare to install the new electric toilet! Fun fact about our boat:  There are small voids in random places that the factory somehow managed to route plumbing and electrical through.  The hoses for the aft head go through one of those spaces. (awesome…) We also learned that the area underneath our shower sump (in the void, obviously) doesn’t drain and has a few inches of standing water in it. I’m not sure how old this water is, but I’m guessing it’s original to the boat.  One of our side projects now is to cut a few small weep holes in the bulkheads so that this water can drain to the bilge if it needs to.  Unfortunately, we have to wait and seal the core material before we let the water drain out… so there will be various iterations of this fix.

Either way, with me curled up in a ball inside one of the gargantuan storage lockers, Jason and I got the run of hose from the valve up to the vented loop replaced.  After a few hours and many unsavory words uttered, we finally routed the new hose from the vented loop (conveniently shoved inside the vanity) through the void and up into the bathroom. The boat randomly had one of those wire fishing thingies on it (how I missed that when cleaning, I do not know…) so we managed to also pull a power wire through the appropriate hole for the toilet pump!

Another hose I had to cut. Luckily this was just seawater not sewage

Holes drilled and new hose ran!

We have been just cutting a lot of hoses off of their fittings. More than I’m usually comfortable with, but I’m pretty sure this hose has never been replaced, making it 19 years old.

The hoses are seriously failing. This isn’t just going to slide nicely off of a fitting it’s been clamped to.

In a previous post I mentioned that we had to remove the sea water strainer located in the bilge in order to get to the connections to the valves for the aft head.  Here’s a picture of the access hole that we’re working with that might explain why that is!

It’s like a foot wide. Just enough room for half a head and an arm.
Stack of valves and another hose in the way.

In other news, our shiny new plastic holding tank arrived today! Now we can attach all the hoses to it and start working on reinstalling the floor! It’ll be nice to have a solid surface to walk on again instead of tiptoeing over all of the open holes in the deck.  How I haven’t sprained an ankle yet, I’ll never know…

So fancy!
Exact same size as factory. 60 gallons!
perfect fit!

The fittings that I ordered for it even arrived, so we can really start putting this boat back together!
