Since we’ve lived here for 8 years now and have owned various boats, Jason and I have been to the San Juan islands multiple times. It’s beautiful every time, but this time Anacortes Yacht Charters had a sailboat we essentially wanted to “test drive” and a week long vacation in the islands sounded like the perfect way to do that! We kidnapped mom, grabbed some clothes, and hit the road!
We arrived in Anacortes with time to spare. Jason and I went to check in and check out the boat while mom ran to the grocery store so we didn’t starve to death. Eventually we were on our way!
Our destination for the night was Spencer Spit, which is a very narrow passage between Lopez island and Frost island. It’s a state park with hiking trails, beaches, etc. We anchored on the south side to avoid some of the waves from the ferries as they run by (all night long).
It’s hard to get a dinghy off the beach and not get your feet wet, so I just bit the bullet and took off my shoes and socks and walked into the water until it was deep enough for me to jump in and the dinghy to not run aground. I’d forgotten how cold the water is here, but on the plus side I couldn’t feel my feet anymore. 😉
Everyone was tired from getting up super early to drive up to catch the ferry, so we headed back to the boat to cook some dinner and relax before it was time to sleep.
