Who knew photography could be such hard work? Everyone met at 6:30 in the morning on Saturday to drive to Granville Island to take photos.  After 3 hours, we were all tired and not everyone had heeded the warning to have breakfast beforehand.  We had a nice snack (ok, second breakfast!) at an outdoor restaurant (I got my coffee!) before continuing on.  We’re here to learn, not to relax! 😉 Our next task was to experiment with changing lighting conditions and white balance by shooting the fruit in the Granville Market.

I could have definitely spent a few more hours here buying food and presents for everyone I know but, again, here to shoot, not to shop! (sorry friends and family! no souvenirs for you!)

moody lighting on some mango…what’s the plural of mango?
blueberries. They’re more of a texture than a subject.

Is this photo cheesy?
Pez is still a thing?

So many tomatoes…

We were given a half hour, so everyone dispersed pretty quickly to try and get “the shot”.  Because #anxiety I ended up back at the meeting spot 10 minutes early just in case.  Which was good really, because I wandered back inside by the fish area and got the photo of the lobster, which is one of my favorites.

There was a break daily from 11-3 mostly because the lighting is shit anyway.  I was glad for a break just to get off my feet for a bit and charge all of my batteries. (dammit, Sony!)

Saw a MCLAREN on the way back to the car! 😮

Overall the workshop is amazing! Bryan’s books have been some of my favorites for years now and I was happy to learn that he’s just as knowledgeable and easy to talk to and understand in person.
