Another stop on our unofficial Tahiti road trip was the Taravao Plateau lookout.  The lookout is located on the Southern part of Tahiti, called “Tahiti-iti.” The view was pretty nice and it was cool to be able to see the big storm clouds rolling in and covering the mountains.

lots of rain over there. Too bad we left our laundry out on the patio to dry…
Looks like a rainforest here

The Hinano Tahiti girl bottle cap. This logo is literally everywhere.

Not only is the Hinano beer logo everywhere, so are bitchin’ Land Rovers! I wish I could find one of these at home, because they’re so freaking cool! I want one!

Want.

When we picked up our rental car, they asked us if we wanted to pay per day for unlimited mileage or pay per mile… we chose to pay per mile because we couldn’t possibly drive that much.  Fun fact: we drive a LOT! (If you go to Tahiti, rent a car, and plan on doing a loop of the island, just get the unlimited mileage and don’t worry about it!) Either way, since we were already on Tahiti-Iti, we just kept driving and went to the world famous Teahupoo wave. (another fun fact: I had never heard of it).  Our resident surfer had heard of it and when he learned how close we were to it, he just had to go see it.

Teahupoo is known as the “heaviest wave in the world” due to the shape of the reef underwater forming it into a wave that is usually as thick as it is tall…and it can reach up to 23′ high!

Probably the most boring shot of it ever taken. The sea was almost flat.
That’s more like it
This thing wraps around like a vortex of watery crushing death. No Thanks.
