The Old Mill District in Bend, Oregon started life as, you guessed it, an actual mill.  Logging was a big deal in Oregon and this site was where they processed the logs and sent them down the Deschutes river.  The designers retained as much of the mill architecture, machinery, and pieces as they could and re-purposed them into street art and buildings for the new shops.  The 3 large smokestacks now mark the location of the REI.

You can see the stacks from most of the high points in Bend.
This little Bend logo is everywhere!
Bikes are huge here
So many big, pretty trees!
Almost fall colors
The foot bridge over the river

The sunflower says summer is over…

We ventured down to Old Mill (and managed to not actually buy anything at REI for once!) on one of the coldest and windiest days of the trip.  We didn’t stay and explore!
