Bringing our cats on the boat trip with us was more of a result of poor planning than actual intent.  Usually our parents watch the cats, but they were coming with us.  All of our friends were out of town also! So, screw it, we’ll just bring them along. What’s the worst that could happen? 😉

It would seem that cats and boats would be completely incompatible, however ours did pretty much the same things they do at home.  The gray cat, known as “Duster”, hid in various cool and dry spaces throughout the boat and avoided interaction as much as possible except for around mealtimes.  The black cat, known as “Dart”, slept in every available patch of sunshine.

I did let them out onto the aft deck a few times for the sheer entertainment value than anything else.  Duster wanted nothing to do with it and quickly made his way back to the safety of the boat.  Dart likes to slink around sniffing things and meowing loudly for no reason.  So I went ahead and let him do that.  At one point I opened the transom door to the swim step and as he peered out I could slowly see the dawning comprehension and panic that he was surrounded by water.  He immediately turned around and hauled ass back into the boat.

I tried to chronicle their antics as best I could, but they’re still cats and, honestly, not very dynamic animals. 😉 They spent most of the trip sleeping.

Dart is a fuzzpuff

I let him lay on the table because we’re not at home and he could see outside.
That is a very happy animal
Duster wondering what Jason is doing down there.
I’m still not sure what he thought he was begging for.

They hid there the first time we started the engines.
Still hanging out on the table.
A boat drove by and startled him.
Duster is the best hider.
I promise there’s a cat in this photo.
