On one of our days off we all piled onto the bus with our backpacks full of beverages, beach towels, and snorkel crap and headed down to the marina. The marina is fully stocked with big sailboats, sailing dinghies, fishing boats, little power boats, kayaks, standup paddleboards, and probably a bunch of other stuff we didn’t even see. We’ve been all meaning to try stand up paddleboarding for a while now but it’s always inconvenient and expensive. Here it was only $4 and since there was no one else there we pretty much had them for as long as we wanted. Sweet! Actually, we rented them twice. 😉 The first day it was a little choppy and rough so we had fun watching all the spectacular crashes into the water. It was harder than I thought it was going to be. Although I didn’t have super high hopes given how terrible I am at standing on any sort of moving surface (note: skateboards are the devil). The next day we went out the water was calm and nice and everyone rented the paddleboards again, but I wanted a kayak. It was some sort of plastic sit on top. Wouldn’t be my first choice for the Pacific Northwest, but it worked great in Diego Garcia. I even got hot paddling and had to splash myself with the water. Life is so hard for me. 😉
On another note, I bought a scuba housing for my camera months ago and literally drug it across the world with me, so I tossed it into the kayak to play.
Renting this little red kayak reminded me how much I missed paddling in general. It’s fun and it’s a great workout. I sold my boat a few years ago… Maybe it’s time for another?! 😉
