Jason and I left Green Turtle Cay and were headed towards Crab Cay to spend the night before heading offshore to Florida but, as usual, we had the sails up and didn’t bother stopping.

One thing I love about sailing at night is how bright the stars are. I got a photo of the Milky Way with my phone!

Interestingly enough the sail through the ocean the next day was April 8th, the day of the eclipse. I would have forgotten about it entirely because the lighting was just sad and mildly overcast feeling all day. Once the actual “totality” (or as close as we would get out here) came I realized we had no way to see it anyway so I tried to snap a terrible photo with my phone. This makes me ashamed to tell people I’m a real photographer. Lol.

Wow…

For the overnight sail jason and I just slept a few hours at a time and took over when we woke up. That seemed to work pretty well compared to my just taking the entire night shift like I did last time. Eventually we rolled into Fort Pierce right at sunset!

Made it!

Sunset over the high rises
Because of the eclipse and tides the entire Fort Pierce jetty was under water, which was crazy to see!

We anchored right as the rest of the light faded and fell into bed and went to sleep.  The next morning we took the boat north to the Vero Beach marina and snagged a mooring ball for, you guessed it, another cold front with wind. We used this time to rent a car and get a bunch of our annoying boat chores done so it was a worthwhile adventure! We also got to spend time with Ian and Caroline!

That’s our 2024 Bahamas season! We’re safely back in Florida and slowly headed north to Green Cove Springs to put Onward away and head out to other adventures! Until next year, Bahamas!
