For some reason I’m super finicky about the plumbing systems in the galley. This boat is set up to use seawater at the galley sink but after digging into it I realized that there were diverter valves that essentially allowed you to use the water pump to draw seawater through the fresh water system. So… if the valves are aligned wrong you can potentially contaminate your fresh water supply with saltwater. Gross and unsanitary.

To start, I added a dedicated seawater faucet and  disconnected the seawater entirely. It’s now on its own system and it makes me feel a lot better.

On our last two boats we had an Acuva UV purification system to make sure no bacteria or nasty stuff makes it out of the tanks into our drinking water! This boat gets one also. We’re going to have three faucets but I think it’s worth it.

The sinks even have these cute little wood covers that I’ll probably never use.
Drinking water on the left (where the hose nozzle was) and the seawater will be in the middle.
Done!
The water system as I found it. All kinds of shenanigans going on down here…
Let’s tear it all up!

I simplified the system a lot by removing one diverter valve and reconfiguring the piping.

While we were out shopping for parts I scored a deal on a small water filter that I’m now going to install to catch any particles coming from the water tanks!

It even had the original receipt!
Done! Simple and upgraded!

I couldn’t find the parts I needed to install the UV purifier system so that and my fancy new faucet are going to have to wait a while longer before they get installed in the boat. Be ready for part 2!
