The only few times we’ve been to Shroud Cay before we’ve anchored the boat up by the northernmost mangrove river because it’s the most popular. It’s beautiful obviously but it also ends at the “washing machine” which is where the river narrows next to a large rock before it exits into the ocean. This makes a huge whirlpool that people jump off of the boulder into and get carried off! (For like 20’ into a sandbar). We took the dinghy up so the parents could see this part of Shroud and because I love this place so much! Unfortunately, the super yachts found it so the beach was littered with jet skis, paddleboards, portable shelters, beach chairs, 40’ yacht tenders, and bored staff members. It wasn’t at all the beach that I remembered. It has always been a popular place, but the yacht people just came in and took over, which is unfortunate for anyone else who wants to enjoy the area.
Since the beach was so crowded we did the little hike to the top of the hill where the CIA used to spy on the drug runners at Normans Cay.
