One of our reasons for anchoring at Hog Cay is its proximity to Duncan Town, the furthest settlement in the ragged islands. We needed some stuff like milk and eggs so we made the trek across the bay in the dinghies. The interesting part about getting to Duncan Town is that they’ve cut a dinghy channel through the shallow sand bank and mangroves straight into town. I saw it on the charts but it’s way shallower and way longer than it looked!

Duncan town got hit by a hurricane a few years ago and apparently never recovered.  There are buildings under construction and we saw maybe 10 people out and about.  Apparently there is a store of some kind but none of the locals could tell us where to go.  There was one restaurant open but they were doing a class inside when we arrived and told us to come back in a few hours.  Overall the town was pretty sad and we didn’t get any eggs.

Those are goat hides
Pigeons?

We also did a little hike while at the hog cay anchorage.

Usual junk trail marker
More creepy doll parts
Shark!
Beach wasn’t too bad!

Duncan town ended up being the farthest we went in our boat this season which is still way further than we expected we would get! It’s a good thing we stocked up on groceries though!
