Tom Sauk mountain in the St. Francis mountains is the highest point in Missouri at 1772 feet.
To start off our hike on the right foot we climbed to the top of the fire tower to check it out. Unfortunately the top was closed off so we couldn’t go all the way to the top.
The trail to the top of the mountain snakes through the trees that have almost lost all of their leaves. I really liked the look of the endless pattern of straight tall trees in the forest and the texture of all of the grass and shrubs in the underbrush.
The trail to the summit was only a few miles at most (I forget) and you can drive most of the way up. However it also intersects the Ozark Trail at a few points, which might be a fun hike next time we’re up that way!
