Well, the rainstorm didn’t rip the dodger off the boat! Aside from being soaking wet and covered in a completely destroyed sun shade, there was really no indication anything had happened at all! Which I’m fine with… Id’ hate to have to scrap the project now.  It looks too cool!

Jason and I took some initial measurements and then took the hardtop off of the boat and carried it down to the ground to sit on top of some sawhorses.  We adjusted them and added a car jack until the angles and lengths matched what it was when it was on the boat.  Then we dragged the fiberglass out of the 4Runner (where it lives now, apparently) and set it up behind the boat.

We’re trying to use ALL the ladders at the yard at one time.
The glass we put on set up nicely! There’s still too much flex though.

We decided to do 2 huge 40×60″ sections that overlap in the middle. They’re always a bear to get wet out and rolled into place. I’m very very glad we finally have some slow hardener for the epoxy since that makes it a lot less stressful!

We now have a layer and a half on the bottom edge of the hardtop.  Since it’s cool in the mornings still, we wanted to focus on getting more layers of glass, so we went straight to that and didn’t mess with rounding off the foam for the lip on the underside.  Tomorrow we’re going to glue in some triangle pieces that we can later sand down to make a nice curve that fiberglass will easily roll over.  Maybe we’ll even be able to put some glass on those edges!
