The National Theater of Costa Rica was completed in 1897 and is considered to be the finest historical building in San Jose.  We only got to look around the lobby and the statues that are inside.  One funny story about the place is about the mural “Allegory of Coffee and Bananas” by Aleardo Villa.  Villa was an Italian artist commissioned to do the painting, however he had never been to Costa Rica so the final piece had a lot of errors in it.  One worker is holding bananas upside down where they would obviously all fall to the ground.  The women look European and are wearing European dresses.  Despite these and probably a few other inconsistencies, the painting is featured on the 5 Colon bill.

Very light and airy building
I liked the door pulls
