The weather along the coast was so sunny and beautiful that Jason and I hunted down the nearest local bike shop and picked their brains on where to go for a scenic and relaxing ride.  We ended up just outside the town of Mendocino at the Big River Estuary.  There is a huge network of trails in the area, however given that we just wanted a break we took the main trail along the river.  We had planned to go a little further than we actually made it, however we failed to see the “river crossing” mentioned on the map. They really meant it! There would have been full on swimming involved and I’m not sure how the bikes would have made it across.  Either way, it was a really relaxing little exercise break from sitting in the truck.  You can also rent kayaks and paddle the river.  That would have been a fantastic time as well.

Along the trail was a quarry, so I had to go down and check that out! Turned out to not be a quarry for any real interesting rocks… but I had fun shooting the piles of rusty metal. 😉

Interesting little trail.  I have added this to our list of mountain biking destinations along the coast for another road trip in the future!
