Today was a rock day! After we finished our little hike at City of Rocks state park, we drove over to Rockhound state park for, you guessed it, digging up some rocks!  This small area is open to rockhounding (although you can only take a small amount) for geodes, jasper, and thundereggs! Jason and I went ahead and hiked all the way to the top of the mountain with our backpacks and started digging! It had rained so much lately that a few layers of dirt were disgustingly sticky, thick mud. After filling my backpack and some of Jason’s we decided we had enough clinging to the side of a mountain and made our way back to the truck.

We’re going to hike up there

The only coffee in town!

Since we paid for a New Mexico State Park day pass we decided to make good use of it and hit up a third park for the day: Spring Canyon.  This turned into more of a little drive up the canyon and then back down because we already did 2 hikes today and we were tired!  Unfortunately the main view here was another large hike, so we passed and took a little offroad detour to check out some old ruins!
