My poor parents have been sheltering in place due to Covid-19 since Jason and I left their place in Nevada in early March. Their little community is completely shut down and after 2 months straight of sitting around and going on long walks they’ve had enough. They loaded up the car with snacks and hand sanitizer and drove across the country to an Airbnb near us in Jacksonville, Florida! I’m glad that they came to visit. We’ve been doing nothing but going to the boat to work and occasionally to the grocery store and it was really nice to see familiar faces! (hard to make new friends during a pandemic…figures)
We’ve mostly just been relaxing by the pool and hanging out but since St. Augustine has been opening up and trying to attract visitors, we made the short pilgrimage over. St. Augustine is one of those places that’s super cool, cute, interesting, and historical but is always jam packed with tourists. It was almost odd being there and being able to walk through the streets and shops easily. There were still a few places closed, but we got ice cream and pizza and didn’t have to wait! 🙂
The main attraction is the old fort:
The oldest masonry fort in the continental United States, the Castillo de San Marcos is a large Spanish stone fortress built to protect and defend Spain’s claims in the New World.
The fort wasn’t open for tours yet so we just walked around the grounds. The fort is obviously right on the water and overlooks the mooring field of cruising boats! Lots of catamarans out here. Maybe someday Jason and I will be anchored out in our boat!
Last but not least, here’s an assortment of pictures from around town! I didn’t even bring my big camera with me this time.. behold the mighty sensor of the Iphone X. LOL.
Fantastic day out with the family. It was super relaxing and it was nice to be able to get out and explore a little bit for a change!
