My favorite part of cruising is taking the dinghy out and exploring parts of the islands that we visit.  Shroud Cay was no exception as the large island is cut by a few small mangrove rivers.  I’ve never been in a mangrove so it was fascinating taking the dinghy up the river and snorkeling around.  The plants were only a few feet high above the water line and you could almost see straight across the entire island, but the river itself varied in width and depth.  Some parts were less than a foot deep while some parts were 10+ feet deep.  We even saw a few tiny sharks swimming around. (and yes, Jessica, I sung baby shark…) There were also a few fish and 2 little dinner-plate sized sea turtles!
