Upon checking into the hotel, Jason asked the guy at the front desk what he recommended to do in Whitehorse. One of the things mentioned was Miles Canyon and a hike out to the remains of Canyon City. I love abandoned things, so the Canyon City ruins were on my list for sure! It was a gorgeous hike along the river even though we were super paranoid about bears the entire time!



The rock here is columnar basalt and looks similar to the famous beach in Iceland that everyone takes pictures of. The columns aren’t as distinct, but they are there!







I was expecting more abandoned buildings and whatnot at Canyon City, but it was so old that there was barely anything left. I suppose the winters here are pretty harsh, so I should have expected that. It was still neat to see and read some of the history. Canyon City was built for a wooden tram to ferry supplies and small boats to the over side of the dangerous rapids in Miles Canyon.
