Mold and mildew never sleep on a boat so I’ve been looking at ways to keep air flowing and make sure the boat stays dry.  I’ve been eyeing these rubber drainage mats so I can line all of the lockers and keep our cargo off of the hull. Well, some came up on craigslist a while ago and I’ve been watching them for a few weeks but the guy just dropped the price and I couldn’t pass them up! 72 tiles for $75… They’re usually $3 or more per tile.  They were located up north in Amelia Island, so Jason and I went on a little road trip!

Unfortunately, it was a stormy, rainy day and not much fun to go to the beach or explore the town.  We did still stop by the beach though, out of principle!

Look at those clouds!

Yeah it was windy!
So pretty
Proof that my feet touched the water
Meh

Since we obviously weren’t going to hang out outside, Jason and I drove down A1A from the beach to the Mayport Ferry.  The ferry holds like 10 cars and is totally adorable compared to the gigantic ones we were used to up in Washington!

Waiting in line. It cost all of $7 to ride

Apparently Mayport is known for its shrimp and located conveniently next to the ferry terminal is Singleton’s Seafood Shack, which gets killer reviews and apparently serves fantastic seafood. Lunch it is!

Singletons!
Terrible picture, fantastic food! GO EAT HERE!
It’s a dive. The floor slopes and everything.
Fun murals on the wall outside also!

The food was amazing.  We had triggerfish, scallops, and fried shrimp.  The shrimp was perfect.  I’ve never had triggerfish before but it was a super firm flaky white fish.  They’re now on my list of fish to kill when we go fishing next! Even the hush puppies were outstanding!

Took this picture of a log truck just so my northwest buddies can laugh at how tiny the logs are. I cut down weeds thicker than this on that property we had…

We did spend most of the day wandering around exploring and eating amazing seafood, but on the way home highway 295 was blocked due to an accident.  The only other convenient way for us to get back across the river is to take the bridge to Green Cove Springs and drive right by the boat.  If we stop by and work for a little bit we can count it as having worked on the boat today and keep our total of “days we didn’t go to the boat” impressively low for bragging rights.. or something.

Our fancy new lights! (with fancy blue LED)
Hard to see because it was so bright, but this is a nice little wall sconce

I’m sure we did some other stuff besides hook up our lights temporarily, but I can’t remember what that might have been.  Either way, we eventually made it home and unloaded all 72 of those stupid tiles I decided I had to have.  In my infinite wisdom I thought I would put them in the bathtub and let them soak because they smelled a little bit like stale wetsuit water and mold.  I forgot that I have to take a shower in that same bathtub.  :/ I ended up just standing on the tiles, which was awkward but doable… Jason just gave up, but he’s a lot taller than me!

Fun day! I can’t wait to go explore Amelia Island when it’s sunny! It looks like a cool place!
