Well we found out first hand that there really isn’t much in the bight of abaco and chose to head up to Pensacola Cay, a pretty popular anchorage for a lot of cruising and fishing boats. We didn’t have to worry about there not being room for us because we headed straight up to the 3′ deep water and dropped our anchor right in the middle of it! This island has a few trails and a “signing tree” where people leave all kinds of DIY things with their boat name on it. On one hand it’s kind of a cool art installation, but also kind of sickening how much trash washes up on the beaches here.
We also took the machetes into the woods and cleaned up the trail to the old ruins!
On our way out we stopped by the other end of the island to check out a potential anchorage spot that a friend told us about. It’s a super skinny channel into an inner lagoon that looked like a super protected spot to ride out bad weather. It was kind of sketchy going in because of how narrow it was, but it was a really interesting area with so many sea turtles!
