Royal Caribbean offers nearly unlimited shore excursion options for each port of call but we only signed up for one: horseback riding in Skagway. The ride itself actually started in the town of Dyea. The bus driver told us that the only reason Dyea isn’t still a ghost town is because of the horseback tours and other excursions that are now using it as a starting point. There’s really nothing there. The people working at the ranch all live in tiny cabins with no power or running water etc. That would get old pretty quickly I think. The trail ride itself goes out along the Taiya River through the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park. I miss horses!
