It’s essentially taken us 3 days of sailing to get to where we can cross the actual bight.  This whole area is a LOT larger than it looks!  The reason most people never come this direction is that a lot of the water is a max of 6′ deep and there are still sand humps and coral to contend with.  Luckily we don’t have the problem because of how shallow the draft on Onward is, but we still had to pay attention! Luckily it was pretty smooth sailing until the very end where we ran up onto a line of what’s known as “fish mud”.  Fish mud is where there’s literally a large school of fish churning up the sand while looking for food and it creates a sandy looking area in the water that looks just like a super shallow sand bar! We saw this from fairly far away and it wasn’t on the charts anywhere! Super nervewracking to sail through just in case the charts are wrong!

We sailed pretty much all day and finally pulled up to a tiny island called Cave Cay along a little island chain in the northeast part of the Bight.
